Which telescope should I buy?

i found a couple websites that give some fine information, but to bring it down to size. I want some more resources on what I should buy. I'm looking for something around 1,500 USD with the maximum aperture I can get. I'm looking for a one time first buy telescope. In other words... i will be studying astronomy, and making this a purchase that will last through many years of observation. Am I an amateur? Yes...Will i want a simple design? No... I want something competative, but not to compete, just to save me the hassle of upgrading. I will primarily be looking at the moon as thats whats most visible most days, but i will be seeking galaxies, stars, and planets quite often. I need more input. so far i have taken interest in the meade lx200, but i dont need this GoTo technology. I would rather skip that for more aperture at the same price.
